TOC Peer Feedback and Revisions

Image
Introduction After deciding what mock up I was going to use for my final table of contents, I decided to get some feedback regarding how I could improve my design. I received a variety of suggestions with most of them focusing on two aspects of my design: the formatting of the articles and the fonts used. I decided to use some of these suggestions to see if they would work well. Suggestion One The largest suggestion I received from my peers was to edit the formatting of articles. One of the structures my peers proposed is displayed below. I was intrigued by this design. So, I tried it out in my Table of Contents. When I did so, I did change the justification of the article titles to left justified in order to  make implementing this formatting a bit easier. When I did so, my Table of Contents looked much cleaner and easy to read. I decided to keep this suggestion as a part of my Table of Contents due to its effectiveness. Not only did it improve the design of my Table of Contents a...

TOC Mock ups and Final Cover

Image
Introduction  In my previous post, I went over the information I am going to include in my table of contents. In this post, I will be creating two mock ups and deciding which one I will use as a part of my final product. Please note that these designs will change as I continue to go through this process. In my mock-ups, I am much more conventional in my designs in comparison to my table of contents because I have learned that to be the most effective, my design must be only a bit not unconventional, not completely as it can take the audience aback. Mock-up One  For this mock up, I took my first sketch from my second to last post and inserted the information and images I had dealt with in my last post. I did end up changing a few things from the sketch in order to increase the effectiveness of my design. The first thing I did was increase the space between each article when I inserted the information, the page looked a bit overcrowded. The next thing I did was change my feature...

Table of Contents: Images and Articles

Image
Introduction Throughout this blog, I will be exploring some important aspects of my table of contents including images and article titles. I would like to go towards a more sleek design, one that it is not as jarring and bold as my cover but still impactful. As always, keep in mind that none of the information explained below is set in stone and will change as I continue to learn more about magazines. In my choices, I was inspired by Time magazine the most, which can be seen in my decisions. I thought that it would be interesting to take inspiration from Time for my table of contents as I took inspiration from Bloomberg Businessweek and Newsweek for my cover. Table of Contents Images  Image One For my first image, I decided to take a picture that coincided with my main cover line. This is because in my genre, if an image is included in a table of contents, then it is usually related to one of the featured stories, which is coincidentally my main cover line. I wanted to create...

Table of Contents Conventions and Sketches

Image
Introduction After finishing my cover in the last blog, it is time to turn my attention to one of the most important aspects of a magazine: the table of contents. Throughout this post, I will not only be exploring the conventions of my genre in relation to this crucial part of a magazine but I will also be going through some possible sketches. For my sketches, I am choosing to continue using Canva, the design platform that I have been using throughout this project. To create my designs, I used a poster template on Canva and started emulating designs from magazines that inspired me. Below is an image depicting the place I started from in my process of designing a table of contents. Note that this was a Canva template that I had edited a bit before documenting it. Before I begin, it is important to note that this blog is not set in stone and the designs presented will be edited and I will add information to my blogs as I learn more throughout this process.   Conventions  ...
